MacDonald wanted Condit but got BJ Penn

The Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC and its president Dana White wanted The Prodigy BJ Penn to come out of his retirement so badly that over the past two months, they had been cajoling the former UFC Welterweight fighter with two huge draws; first with the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Josh Koscheck and then again with Rory MacDonald, the up and coming 22 year old fighting sensation from Canada in an attempt to goad the former two division champion to end his premature retirement from the industry.

And although the first of their attempts fell on deaf ears, Penn has decided to end his retirement and come back to the octagon to fight against Rory MacDonald at UFC 152, slated to be held at Toronto, Canada. Although the young UFC Welterweight fighter acquiesced to the requests of the UFC hierarchy, he wanted to fight against Carlos Condit, the only man who has managed to blemish his near perfect record in the company by inflicting on him his first loss in the UFC.

And the 22 year old with a 3-0 record since the knockout victory of Condit over him made no secret that he wanted to fight him again but did say that the chances were bleak as the interim UFC Welterweight Champion busy at the moment when the UFC approached him with a proposal to fight BJ Penn, which he gleefully accepted.

Penn has not stepped inside the UFC octagon since he was defeated by Nick Diaz back in 2011, but The Prodigy will be looking for victory against Ares and sending out a signal to Georges St Pierre, the poster boy of Tri-Star. And MacDonald, too, knows that a victory against BJ Penn will also land him a match with the man who has been his conqueror once as well.

    EDGAR GETS HIS WISH

Frankie Edgar wanted to have a rematch with fighter Benson Henderson and this has finally been granted. UFC president Dana White has reportedly tweeted and mentioned that the fight is scheduled to take place this summer although the date, place and time have not yet been fixed. The basic reason for the rematch is that Frankie Edgar wants to fight out Benson again as he feels he could have put up a better fight compared to the last where he lost unanimously and was terribly trashed by Benson who went on to win the lightweight title. Frankie feels it’s time to pay back and get revenge for what has happened.

It was quite a surprise decision as till yesterday it was unknown as to who would be fighting Benson for the ultra competitive light weight championship. There were quite a few names that were thrown around, but to finally have someone who was desperate for this match is quite surprising. Frankie Edgar is however on the top of the world and is practicing constantly to ensure he manages to win the championship in the light weight division this time. Edgar is on a winning spree as of now and has managed to win six out of the eight matches fought recently. There is no stopping him if he is dedicated and adamant on making the win. However, one should never under estimate Benson as well who indeed managed to defeat Frankie Edgar the first time.

Benson Henderson has quite an amazing profile as well to flaunt and has lost just one match since 2007. These statistics just go on to show his excellent skills and how he has managed to put on an excellent show each time he goes on the stage. Both these players are at the peak of their career as and have not had a loss for quite some time.

This just shows that each of them needs to practice more to better themselves and finally make sure that they make use of the right strategy on the final day. Fighting your competitor requires skill and patience and a lot of strategy which will not come until you carefully observe your opponent’s move. Let’s hope that Frankie Edgar and Benson Henderson manage to put up a good fight – the winner will face Forest Griffin. It is quite difficult to give an analysis at this stage with both being at their best.

FIGHTERS MUST BE CHAMPIONS IN ALL MMA STYLES

Practicing a single martial arts style is not difficult but now the knowledge of different martial arts styles is becoming the necessity of the fighters. The trend is leaning towards to the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and this is the reason that many sports person and players practice MMA. The number of fighters who are practicing MMA is increasing. The successful fighters now believe that no single martial arts style is better than the best moves of all other styles. The fighters now want to punch like a boxer, throw like a Judo expert and kick like a Taekwondo expert.

Some fighters are good, but you never bet on them; some fighters may be weaker, but you enjoy betting on them, and some fighters may be rated so great by everybody else that you bet on them merely because of their reputation. In general you bet on fighters who have won your trust, as you feel safer while betting on them. You can become a trusted fighter in UFC only when you win consistently, which needs you to have learnt the best moves of all the different martial arts styles.

Winning once is easy but to continue the serial of winning is difficult, and it could be possible only if you have reserved too many moves to apply on your opponents. You could continue your winning series in UFC only if you know the defensive moves against the attacking moves of different styles of martial arts.

    UFC Workouts
The UFC fight styles are different for different fighters so the workouts are also different for different fighters. The UFC workout of the fighter Randy Couture Military press x 8, Bent rows x 8, Lunges x 8 for each leg, Upright rows x 8, Deadlift x 8 and Squat push press x 8.

EDGAR TO BE ONE OF THE BEST

Frankie Edgar should be accepted among the best MMA fighter according to wishes of many fans. Frankie Edgar is being hailed for his style. He was overtly impressive during the match against Penn. He didn’t give him any chance to recover.

In the four-round fight it was Edgar who dominated the proceedings against Penn. Since then he is being praised left, right and centre for his extraordinary skills. He is new MMA champion.

However, many in the industry are not ready to accept Edgar as a champion. They talk about an earlier match with Penn when he lost it. There are mixed reactions over the burning issue. But there is no doubt to the fact that Edgar played well this time.

He had learned some lessons from his earlier defeat. And he made sure this time that his strategies work. Form the time when both the fighters stepped into the octagon it was Edgar who had dominated the fight.

That doesn’t mean that Penn meekly surrendered. He too tried his best to pin down Edgar. But this time it was Edgar who turned the table on his past tormentor Penn. And he did it with great success. But the time the match entered into the four rounds it was clear who the winner was. (More …)

    Silva Makes Most Money

He survived one of the worst beatings of his career but a payday likely well in excess of US$300,000 helped ease Anderson Silva’s pain.

Silva held on to submit challenger Chael Sonnen in the fifth round of their middleweight championship bout at UFC 117 on Aug. 7 in Oakland, Calif. Silva was behind on all three scorecards before stopping Sonnen via triangle choke with less than two minutes remaining.

The Brazilian mixed martial arts star made his seventh title defence of the belt he has held for nearly four years. On top of his basic purse of $200,000, Silva picked up $120,000 in bonuses for fight and submission of the night.

Sonnen received $95,000, including his $60,000 for fight of the night.

Those figures do not tell the whole story, however. The UFC does not disclose all its bonuses and top fighters like Silva usually earn a lucrative cut of the pay-per-view revenue.

According to the California State Athletic Commission, the total ticket receipts for the event was $1,565,130. Attendance was 14,617 for the UFC’s first appearance in the Bay Area.

But Silva (27-4) didn’t emerge from the bout with Sonnen (26-11) unscathed. He is reportedly sidelined until early 2011 with cracked ribs. The athletic commission wouldn’t release the medical report from the card due to privacy laws.

Matt Hughes improved to 45-7 by choking out Ricardo Almeida (12-4) 3:15 into the first round of their welterweight bout. Hughes received a minimum of $260,000, including a $100,000 win bonus and $60,000 for the submission, for his first fight since being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in May. Almeida took home $35,000.

    DEL ROSARIO SHINES

Del Rosario shined on Friday’s MMA beating his opponent in emphatic fashion. Del Rosario (10-0) took less than four minutes to dispatch Lolohea Mahe (4-2) with a technical knockout on Friday in the main event of the Strikeforce Challengers event in Everett, Wash. Del Rosario rocked Mahe with knees in the clinch and finished him with punches against the fence to provoke the referee stoppage.

It was Del Rosario’s fifth Showtime bout on a smaller show, including two fights for EliteXC’s developmental circuit before joining Strikeforce. Going into the bout, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker characterized the Mahe fight as a “graduation opportunity” for Del Rosario.

Fighters With the Hardest Punches in MMA

One of the great pleasures when you watch MMA fights is that, aside from being an exciting viewing experience, it is also a great way to learn a lot of things about MMA. For instance, if you want to find out who among the leading MMA warriors are considered as the hardest punchers, then you can get a good insight if you watch MMA fights.

There is actually a long list of hard hitters in MMA, as traditional defense styles seen in boxing are not possible in this extreme combat sport. This is the reason why a lot of fights are usually punctuated by heavy bombs from the hardest punchers in mixed martial arts. Because of this overall situation, one can expect difficulty in determining who among the MMA fighters possesses the strongest punch. The search for the top punchers in the world of MMA must cover UFC, Dream, Strikeforce and Senguku.

    1. Fedor Emelianko – He is not really known to be a one-punch knockout artist, still, he is definitely one of those who can deliver a punch with extreme power. His triumph over Andrei Arlovski is one good example of the power of his fist. He delivered a stirring knockout through an overhand right while Arlovski was attempting a flying knee.
